Diet Tip of the Week: A Glass Of Fruit Juice To Kick Start Your Day

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If you don’t eat breakfast, you are not “breaking the fast” and are allowing your body to stay in starvation mode which will actually lead to your body storing more and thus weight gain in the long run. (Picture by Food Thinkers)

To encourage fat-burning, kick start the metabolism with a decent low glycemic and/or high protein breakfast. Examples of this include muesli, porridge, weetabix or wholewheat toast which are all perfect for the low glycemic foodstuffs. Additionally some low fat bacon (grilled), cottage cheese or eggs (scrambled/poached) are excellent for the protein.

There are those of you that will profess that you do not have the time in the mornings to have a proper breakfast. Furthermore there are those of you who will leave the house and eat breakfast at your desk at work – often having been up for an hour or so prior to finally eating. If this is you, then the following will definitely help you.

Fruit Juice

If you are going to leave the house without eating, then at least give your body some fuel until you eat at your desk. A glass of apple, orange or pineapple juice (not from concentrate – but real fruit juice) will provide some vital sugars that will fuel your body for a short while and kick start the metabolism. If you are one of the many commuters out there who walks to work, rides the underground or the bus and finds yourself feeling faint, then a quick glass of juice could completely change your morning routine; not only making you feel better, but also making your body more healthy.

Water

As well as your glass of juice, a glass of water should also be a regular part of the morning routine. Most of us do not drink enough, we get dehydrated quickly by the days activities and from drinking tea and coffee which actually dehydrates rather than hydrates. Over night we respire and perspire losing water. Most of us urinate when we first wake up as part of our normal morning routine, so it surly makes sense to also hydrate first thing in the morning with a simple glass of water.

The Simple Routine

This is not difficult. It is not a big ask. It is something simple that we can all do to make our bodies work more efficiently and ultimately to treat our bodies as best we can. If you bought a Ferrari or an Aston Martin, you would ensure you do all the checks and provide the car with everything to ensure it runs as bet as it can. The way you treat your body should be no different.

By simply taking a glass from the cupboard, filling it with water and drinking it down, then filling the same glass back up with fruit juice and then drinking that before you finish breakfast (or at least before you leave the house) you will be preparing you body far better for the day ahead.
